Top Eats in June: French Bistro in the Heart of Shanghai

Here at Eastbound and Beyond, we love discovering places that delight both the palate and the soul. This month's restaurant recommendation is a French bistro we've recently fallen for: Nuits.

Here's a fun coincidence: the French word Nuits (pronounced "nwee") sounds kind of like both "June" and "six" (liù in Chinese).Maybe we're reading too much into it – but we like to think it's a playful little connection that makes Nuits feel like the perfect pick for month six of the year!

You may already know Nuits from their well-loved Japanese and Chinese sister restaurants – both of which we're fans of. So when we discovered their French concept, we had high expectations, and we're happy to say they didn't disappoint.

Tucked right in the city center, Nuits is surprisingly peaceful. Despite being in a busy part of town, the atmosphere feels intimate and relaxed – perfect for a quiet lunch or elegant dinner.

One thing that really stood out to us was the incredible value for money. Their three-course lunch set is priced at under 200 RMB, making it one of the best lunch deals we've seen for French cuisine in Shanghai - especially considering the quality of the ingredients and the level of service.

The service here is polished and attentive, without being overly formal - a true mark of a good French bistro. Some of our favorite dishes include:

– Ricotta Cheese Salad – Creamy ricotta paired with fresh greens and seasonal elements, beautifully balanced and refreshing.

– Snow Crab Fettuccine with Lobster Jus – A rich, savory pasta dish that brings together sweet crab meat and a deeply flavorful lobster reduction. (68 RMB extra)

– Mont Blanc – Their take on the classic French dessert is a showstopper: airy, nutty, and perfectly sweet.
