Top Spots in April - Where to Go in Shanghai

As the chill of winter fades and skies begin to clear, spring is the perfect time to head upward. With mild temperatures, longer daylight hours, and surprisingly blue skies, April offers some of the clearest panoramic views you'll get all year. So instead of staying at street level, why not take advantage of the season and admire Shanghai from above?

This month, we're taking you to the top - literally - with our five favorite observatory decks across the city. Whether you want to conquer the tallest tower in China or get the best Instagram shot from Puxi, these sky-high experiences offer a fresh way to fall in love with Shanghai all over again.

 

1. The Stage at White Magnolia Plaza (白玉兰广场)

The Best View on the Puxi Side

Looking for a different perspective? Head to The Stage, the observatory inside White Magnolia Plaza, the tallest building in Puxi. At 320 meters, it offers unbeatable views across the Huangpu River toward Lujiazui's skyscrapers. This is where you get that postcard-perfect shot of Shanghai's skyline - especially beautiful at sunset.

Highlights: Recently opened in April 2025 with early-bird pricing available, skyline views of the "Big Three" (Shanghai Tower, SWFC, Jinmao), outdoor observatory.

2. Global Harbor Observatory (环球港) 

A More Afforable Way to Reach the Top

Located on the west side of Shanghai, Global Harbor offers one of the most relaxed observatories in the city. Situated at 258 meters, it provides fantastic views of both the western side of Shanghai and the skyline around the Huangpu River.

Highlights: Affordable price; Located near shopping and dining options; Breathtaking views of the Huangpu River and Puxi skyline; Relaxed, family-friendly environment.

Entrance address: 3300 North Zhongshan Road, Putuo District (普陀区中山北路3300号环球港)

Observatory height: 258 meters

Hours: 10:00 - 23:59

3. Shanghai Tower Observatory (上海中心大厦)

The Tallest View in China

Towering at 632 meters, Shanghai Tower is the tallest building in China and the third tallest in the world. Its observatory sits at 546 meters, making it the highest indoor observation deck on the planet. 

Highlights: Interactive tech displays, sky post office, and the feeling of floating above the clouds on a clear day.

Entrance address: 501 Yincheng Middle Road, Pudong (浦东银城中路501号)

Observatory height: 546 meters

Hours: 8:30 - 22:00 (last entry at 21:30)

Entrance fee: ¥180

 

4. Oriental Pearl Tower (东方明珠塔)

Shanghai's Iconic Landmark with a Thrilling Glass Floor

Standing at 468 meters, the Oriental Pearl Tower is one of Shanghai's most recognizable landmarks. Its unique design features multiple spheres at varying heights, each offering distinct experiences.

Highlights: Classic skyline views, glass floors, and a revolving restaurant if you're staying for dinner.

Entrance address: No. 1 Century Avenue, Lujiazui, Pudong (浦东陆家嘴世纪大道1号)

Observatory height: 263 meters (main observation deck), 259 meters (glass floor), 351 meters (Space Capsule)

Hours: 9:00 - 21:00 (last entry at 21:00)

5. Jinmao Tower Observatory (金茂大厦)

A Classic View of Shanghai's Skyline

Standing at 340 meters, the Jinmao Tower is one of Shanghai's most iconic buildings. While the thrilling outdoor skywalk is no longer in operation, the indoor observatory still offers fantastic views of both the Lujiazui area and the Bund.

Highlights: Panoramic views of Lujiazui and the Bund, with close-up views of Shanghai Tower and Oriental Pearl Tower, all in a quieter, less crowded setting.
